Give your college finances a boost with an MCU Scholarship!

Every spring MCU awards two $1,000 scholarships: one to the best essay and the other to the best web site that discusses a given topic.

Past topics have included:

• If you were a parent, what would you teach your children about financial responsibility?
• Discuss the pros and cons of online shopping, including security concerns for shoppers and guidelines a smart shopper needs to be aware of.
• How would you encourage today's teens to get involved with their communities?

In order to be eligible for the contest, entrants must be:

• 17 - 22 years old
• an MCU member
• A high school student entering, or a student attending, a university, college, community college or trade school

Essays: All essays must be between 750-1,000 words, typed double-spaced and submitted with a completed application.

Web Site: The specifications for the web site are

• The site must have a home page and three sub pages
• You may publish the site and submit the URL, or submit .htm or .html pages and any related files
• 800 X 600 resolution
• Images should be .jpg/.jpeg or .gif format

Judging: Essays and web site submissions are judged based on content, grammar, spelling, and accuracy. Web pages are also be judged on design and creativity.

*MCU employees, board members, and their immediate families are ineligible for the scholarship. Winning essays and web sites become property of MCU and may be published on the MCU StartPoint web site at www.mcuonline.com/startpoint. Winners are announced on the web site during the summer following the contest and in the MCU “Connections” Newsletter.
