 Privilege Pay

What is Privilege Pay?
MCU extends to qualified members at its discretion the Privilege Pay program. When you do not have enough money in your checking account to cover a transaction, MCU may pay it anyway.
Who is eligible for Privilege Pay?
Requirements include, but are not limited to:
What is the limit on Privilege Pay?
The Privilege Pay limit is $1900. (Top)
What if I exceed my Privilege Pay limit?
When the Privilege Pay limit is exceeded, the items may be returned or declined when presented for payment. (Top)
What is the cost of Privilege Pay?
If MCU covers your overdraft with Privilege Pay, the standard NSF fee will apply for each item covered. Also, if your account is overdrawn for four or more consecutive business days, your account may be subject to a daily negative balance fee. (Top)
How will I know if my account is overdrawn?
A notice will be sent to you on every non-sufficient funds transaction, whether or not the item has been returned, covered by Privilege Pay, or covered by an Overdraft Transfer. The quickest way to receive these types of notices is to sign up for eNotices within MCU Online Banking (under the MCU Services tab). If you are not signed up for eNotices, a paper notice will be sent to you via US mail. (Top)
How can I Opt-In to Privilege Pay?
Privilege Pay coverage for checks, online bill payments, and electronic payments using your checking account number is standard on MCU checking accounts for qualified members.

To extend the coverage to ATM/Debit transactions, you must authorize MCU to do so by completing the ATM/Debit Card Overdraft Option Form.

You may opt out of the Privilege Pay coverage for ATM/Debit Card transactions at any time by completing and submitting the form, or calling MCU at 800-662-2772, ext. 2. (Top)
How Do I Opt Out of Privilege Pay?
You may opt out of the Privilege Pay coverage for ATM/Debit Card transactions at any time by completing and submitting the form, or calling MCU at 800-662-2772, ext. 2.

If you do not want Privilege Pay coverage for any overdraft transaction – including checks, online bill payments and electronic payments, as well as ATM/Debit card transactions, please call MCU.

Please be aware that although Privilege Pay is a discretionary service, and the following could occur even if you do have Privilege Pay, if you opt out you are more likely to encounter the following problems: (Top)
Is Privilege Pay available for my StartPoint Card/Checking account?
Privilege Pay is available for StartPoint members who are over 18 years of age. (Top)
I elected to have Privilege Pay cover my ATM/Debit transactions. Why were my transactions denied?
Privilege Pay is a discretionary service. We typically do not provide Privilege Pay if your account is not in good standing (including, but not limited to having excessive overdrafts, habitual negative balances, or are currently delinquent on an MCU loan). (Top)

 Overdraft Transfer

What is an Overdraft Transfer?
Overdraft Protection allows funds to be transferred from a previously designated MCU account or credit line on which you are an owner or borrower to pay an item. For a line of credit to be available for overdraft protection, you must complete an application, receive credit approval, and designate the line as an overdraft protection source. Overdraft Protection will always be available, as long as your designed overdraft protection source accounts have sufficient available funds or credit. (Top)
How do I sign up for Overdraft Transfer?
Please call 800-662-2772, ext. 2 and an MCU Financial Service Associate will be happy to assist you. (Top)
Is there a fee for Overdraft Transfers?
Yes. An Overdraft Transfer fee will be charged for each overdrawn item covered by the transfer. Also, if your account is overdrawn for four or more consecutive business days, your account may be subject to a daily negative balance fee. (Top)
My account is overdrawn. How long do I have before I need to bring my account balance positive?
The total of the overdraft balance, including any fees, is due upon demand, and you are required to immediately deposit sufficient funds to cover the negative balance. If you cannot bring your account balance positive immediately, please call MCU at 800-662-2772 to make arrangements.
